EIDD Design for All Europe took part in the EU International Day for Persons with Disabilities at the European Commission, represented by our delegate Jasmien Herssens.
The core message was unmistakable: accessibility must be embedded across all EU policies.
Key points raised during the event:
Stop funding institutionalisation , invest instead in independent living, inclusive education, and community-based support.
Mainstream disability rights in housing, employment, education, and crisis preparedness.
Ensure Universal Design / Design for All becomes a structural component of every EU strategy.
Funding was a central concern. The Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) is one of the EU’s most powerful tools, yet it still lacks safeguards for social inclusion and alignment with the UNCRPD. Stronger accountability, clear responsibilities, and measurable targets are essential to turn commitments into meaningful change.
As EIDD Design for All Europe, we remain committed to advancing a more inclusive world, one where Universal Design is not an aspiration but a standard embedded in every policy, space, product, and service. Our work depends on dedicated professionals who carry this mission forward every day.
A special thank you to Jasmien Herssens for representing us with clarity, competence, and unwavering commitment.
