The Cité du design and the Higher School of Art and Design of Saint-Etienne (ESADSE) are grouped together in the same structure since 2010.
Description
The Cité du design is a platform of observation, creation, teaching, training and research through design. It has been created in 2005 and emerged from the development of design teach and from the success of the International Design Biennial, initiated and developed since 1998 by the School of Fine Arts, the City and the Metropolitan District of Saint-Etienne. It. Since 2010, the Cité du design and the Higher School of Art and Design of Saint-Etienne (ESADSE) are grouped together in the same structure with a common objective: to develop research and innovation through creation.
The Cité du design combines both the cultural and economic dimensions of design; it links research, economic and territorial development through projects, exhibitions, conferences publications and well renowned events, such as the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne. Since 2010 ,the Cite du design coordinates the activities of Saint-Etienne UNESCO creative city of design within the network.
The Cité du design has been member of EIDD since 2006.
By its approach focused on design for the uses, it works for the development of Design for All culture :
in the City and Metropolis policies ( the City of Saint-Etienne obtained the flagship of cities and towns for All by the Design for All Foundation on November 2013 and Saint-Etienne Metropolis obtained a DME award 2013 ) .
