Description

The Department of Architecture and Design (DAD) pertains to the Polytechnic School of Genoa and consists of 66 professors and researchers, 26 technicians and administrative staff, 9 research fellows and 36 PhD students. Since 1963 DSA Department focuses its interests on the research of existing architecture and processes of compositional design-build, at different scales, offers a solid and varied education and shape professional figures with strong planning skills, solid and rigorous cultural, historical, scientific and technical basics. Architecture and city, territory and landscape, monumental heritage, interior architecture, products of design, events, yacht design and boating are the main areas of the educational proposal and of the research activity
In particular, the main topics addressed to the Design research team, which strictly liaises with EIDD-DfA Europe, are:

  • Users Centered Design, Design for All
  • Design strategy and Cultural Heritage
  • Social Design
  • Nautical Design for Sustainability

The research team deals with the issues of design for weak users, with special attention to new technologies features. The group is specialized in finding solutions and strategies to improve the quality of life for weak users even in the presence of cognitive impairment associated with aging or Pervasive Developmental Disorders, defining the guidelines, concepts and projects with a User Centered Approach Design.
